This Monday, May 26, the country observes Memorial Day. It’s a day to remember the U.S. service members who gave their lives in military service – and to recognize the families who carry that loss.
It’s also a fitting moment to recognize the veterans who, after their service, brought their discipline, leadership, and craftsmanship into Florida’s construction trades.
Roughly one in ten construction workers in Florida is a veteran – a higher share than nearly any other industry. They run cranes, operate heavy equipment, supervise crews, manage logistics, and lead estimating teams. Many of the disciplines we depend on every day – Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) planning, project safety culture, equipment reliability – owe a real debt to military backgrounds.
We’re a small piece of a big industry, but we want to acknowledge:
- The veterans currently working on VLJ Construction crews and across our partner trades
- The veteran-owned subcontractors and material suppliers we work with on Florida projects
- The Gold Star families in our community
Florida is home to more than 1.4 million veterans – the third-largest veteran population in the country. Many of you may be reading this. Thank you.
VLJ Construction Services is open and operating Tuesday May 26. Our offices and yards observe Memorial Day on Monday May 26.
