VLJ Construction Services operates concrete recycling as a service line, processing reclaimed concrete into Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) for use as road base, sub-base, and structural fill on Florida public-works and commercial projects.
Cost and Compliance Advantage
RCA from a permitted producer typically runs $5-9 per ton below virgin limerock base material at most Florida markets, while meeting FDOT specifications for gradation, durability, and LBR (Limerock Bearing Ratio). On large public-works projects, the cumulative savings can be substantial.
FDOT Spec Compliance
We produce RCA to meet FDOT Standard Specifications requirements for base material applications, with quality control documentation for each batch. Our crushing process includes ferrous metal removal to meet rebar-free specifications, and gradation testing supports verification by prime contractors and FDOT inspectors.
Where RCA Works Well
- County and city road base course (typical FDOT 6-inch base specification)
- Highway resurfacing project sub-base layers
- Commercial parking lot and access road base
- Drainage stone and stabilization fill
- Industrial yard base layers
Where Virgin Aggregate Is Still the Right Call
RCA is appropriate for most base course applications. Some specifications — particularly high-traffic interstate mainline pavement or projects with chloride-sensitive specifications — may require virgin aggregate. We provide consultation on the right material call for each project.
Florida Counties We Supply
RCA production is concentrated in central Florida (Hillsborough, Polk, Orange counties). For projects in other counties, we coordinate hauling from the closest permitted producer.
